A season kick-off marked by weather challenges

Forecast for the 2025 wild blueberry harvest

News & Blog

Following an overall good harvest last year in North America, the outlook for the 2025 wild blueberry harvest is slightly weaker.

Canada

In Quebec, some fields have experienced mild winter stress due to less snow cover to start the winter months, exposing the buds to the cold. Pollination was hampered by the large amount of rain and cool temperatures in the spring and early summer which impacts yield potentials. As the sun begins to come out, stable temperatures will be essential to ensure proper ripening of the fruit. So far, the harvest is expected to be lower than last year.

In the Maritimes, the outlook is rather positive. Indeed, the temperature was more moderate in the spring with overall better weather than Quebec, which helped with pollination.

United States

For the state of Maine, the forecast for the next harvest is looking to be on average. The winter was similar to that of Canada, affecting the potential of some fields. On the other hand, the spring was warm enough to encourage abundant flowering followed by okay pollination. The temperature will have to remain stable in the coming weeks for an optimal harvest.

Market Situation

Overall, we remain hopeful for an average wild blueberry harvest in North America. Given the expected volumes and declining inventories, it is recommended to secure your orders as soon as possible with your Fruit d’Or account manager.
