Strengthening the Resilience of Agricultural Growers : Working Together for Organic Farming

News & Blog

January 20, 2025

Organic has always been at the heart of Fruit d'Or's mission..

Since converting our fields to grow organic cranberries in 1995, we've developed expertise in nature-friendly agriculture. So it was only natural for us to support our growers by offering agronomic guidance to help them make the transition to organic farming and maintain their certification.

Since the beginning of our support, over 200 hectares of conventional cranberry fields have been converted to organic cultivation. Support for the transition, research projects carried out within the organization on organic management practices and the products used, field visits and economic analyses help growers to make the right business decisions and ensure the long-term future of their fields.

La Perle Rouge business case

Jean-François Lasnier, owner-producer of La Perle Rouge cranberry farm in Mauricie, is a prime example of the success of this program. He harvested his first organic crop in 2017, after the transition period that allowed him to change his management system. Driven by a desire to reduce his environmental impact, turning to organic cranberry growing was a natural for him. And he's not stopping there.

Consult our sustainable development plan to learn about the next step in his transition to a more respectful and sustainable culture for the planet.

The long-term future of our company is inseparable from that of our agricultural producers. That's why it was imperative for us to include them in our sustainability plan. Our commitment to actively supporting those who passionately grow the berries we process is demonstrated by 4 specific commitments between now and 2026.

Since our inception, we have built long-term relationships with our growers, based on mutual trust and a shared commitment to sustainable farming practices. It is essential that we continue to support them, equip them for today's challenges, and ensure that they have the resources they need to thrive, whether under organic or conventional management.

It’s the simple everyday things that make our berries so tender, tasty, healthy and give them the perfect texture. Each parcel of land we farm with care and respect. Each extra day we wait to ensure crops are harvested at peak ripeness. Each minute saved between field and freezer. Each berry perfectly preserved. Each unwanted substance detected and eliminated. And each delicious bite our customers enjoy.
