After two years of excellent harvests in Quebec, the 2024 crop has not met our expectations.
In Canada
A less snowy winter and cooler night-time temperatures last spring damaged some fields, though yields have not significantly dropped. The fruit harvested remains of excellent quality.
However, the situation is different in Nova Scotia and the Maritimes. A lack of precipitation has led to drought in some areas, hindering full berry growth. Yields in these regions are expected to decrease by at least 40%.
In the United States
In Maine, the largest wild blueberry-growing state, the harvest has fallen considerably below expectations. Droughts in July and August likely caused water stress to the plants, directly impacting crop size, quality, and volume.
